The schoolboy was with his friends when the driver of a white van approached them and spoke to them about an iPad. Police are investigating the suspicious incident in Liverpool
The disturbing incident saw the driver of the van stop near the child and his friends on Monday, September 7, in the Walton Vale area of Liverpool.
The group were near the Windsor Pub at around 2.50pm when the man is said to have asked them to look at an iPad in his van.
The boy’s mum posted on Facebook to warn other parents about the incident, the Liverpool Echo reports.
She said: “Just wanted to let [sic] parents aware that a man in a white van has tried to lure my son and his friend in tempting them with an iPad at the lights by the Windsor Pub.
“They are both year seven but ran to Rice Lane Primary to get away”.
She added: “Police have said they will have [a] patrol around [at the] start and finish of school to keep a look out for anything suspicious.
“Just [posted] to make little ones and anyone who has new year seven starters aware and to keep safe along the vale.”
Police said no physical contact was made and the incident is being treated as “suspicious circumstances” at this stage.
The van is described as small, white and with no writing on the sides.
No further description of the suspect was given and police have been liaising with the youngster’s school.
“We’d still like to speak to anyone who was in the area at this time and saw a white van near to the Windsor pub, or lives locally and captured a registration number or images of the vehicle, and we will take the appropriate action.
“The boy did exactly the right thing by immediately getting home and informing an adult, and I’d encourage anyone who experiences similar to do the same.
“Always call 999 in an emergency.”
